What is Neurotheology ?

Michelangelo's Creation of Adam from the Sistine Chapel ceiling.

What is Neurotheology ?

What is Neuro-Theology ?

Neurotheology is an emerging field of study and practice that seeks to understand the relationship between Brain science and Theology, particularly in the context of biblical counseling. A neurotheologist is a specialized theologian who focuses on the whole human, helping those struggling to tap into the power within and beyond themselves to reach LIFE. The central question neurotheology addresses is whether the issue lies in your Brain, your Soul, or both.

Seven Pillars of Neurotheology: (Rabbi, Dr. Rich)

1. A healthier brain means a more balanced brain.

2. A balanced brain builds more brain reserve.

3. More brain reserve opens perception, allowing for growth.

4. A broader perception opens a broader prospective bridge to theology.

5. An understanding of theology (LIFE's philosophy) reduces fear.

6. A reduction in fear equals more security and the ability to begin to understand existence's meaningful purpose.

7. Understanding the purpose of existence allows for the discovery of what is beyond existence, the meaning of "LIFE."

Goals of Neurotheology

The central question that neurotheology addresses is whether the issues people struggle with lies in their brain, their Soul (temperament), or both. This provides a Biblically based and Science-supported path to 'renewing of the mind' to help heal relationships and strengthen faith. It is not a quick fix but a lasting transformation. When the brain is healthy, the whole person heals, and communities flourish.

 Why is Neurotheology important?

IS MENTAL HEALTH TRULY BRAIN HEALTH ?

This outlines the principles and practices of Neurotheological Biblical Counseling at Joshua Bible College, emphasizing the authority of God's Word over secular psychology.

Neurotheological Biblical Counseling vs. Secular Psychology counseling?

Neurotheological Biblical Counseling prioritizes the authority and sufficiency of God's Word, viewing it as the ultimate truth for understanding human behavior and motivation. It recognizes the importance of both biological and soul-focused issues, integrating insights from brain health while remaining rooted in biblical principles. Unlike secular psychology, which suggests behavior change leads to altered thinking, Neurotheological Biblical Counseling emphasizes that true change arises from the "renewing of the mind" through the Word of God’s influence.

Certified in Neurotheology Course:

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the study of those who are Biblically observant, focusing on neurotheology as it relates to counseling within the school of ministry. For many, science and theology address two fundamentally distinct realms of human experience, but scientists and theologians are increasingly discovering that these realms intersect.

In this course, you will learn how neuroscience tackles some of LIFE's most significant questions while shedding new light on humanity's most ancient and enduring beliefs and practices, and how the Brain is affected by these questions. The emphasis will be on integrating both biology and theology (also known as Soulology), recognizing when words are not enough, within the counseling concepts known as "Temperament," developed by Drs. Richard and Phyllis Arno of the National Christian Counseling Association.

Through a planned sequence of written instructional materials, the student will:

• Be introduced to the multidisciplinary field of scholarship that seeks to understand the relationship between the human Brain and theology. In its initial development, neurotheology has been conceived in very broad terms, focusing on the intersection of theology and brain sciences. "Neurotheology" is the crossroads where Soulology and Biology connect.

• Be introduced to the terminology relating to the neuroscience of the Brain.

• Learn that the balance between Soulology and Biology is necessary for effective biblical counseling.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be granted credit or standing, as appropriate, by the educational institutions involved.
